In 2004, after three family members were diagnosed with breast cancer, sisters Linda Longman and Susan Godin decided to create a fundraising event to raise money for breast cancer research. After eight years of fundraising, in 2011 they reached their goal of raising $100,000 for breast cancer.
Since then, they have been busy working on personal goals. Susan got her MBA and Linda’s two daughters got married.
In 2014, Susan’s husband Dave was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) is a terminal, progressive neuromuscular disease in which nerve cells die and leave voluntary muscles paralyzed.
The WALK for ALS is an annual Canada-wide fundraiser for ALS. In 2015, Susan sent out an email to friends and family and formed a team, Godin’s Gang, for the 2015 walk. They raised $19,000 that first year and then Susan and Linda decided to resurrect the Sister Act Silent Auction to try and exceed this amount for 2016. It was a resounding success and between the auction and other support raised through the Godin’s Gang team members, another $38,000 was raised to help fund research and support families in Ontario living with ALS.
Their goal is to continue fundraising and participating in the WALK for ALS until they reach $100,000 for this great cause.
We would like to thank our friends and family for the amazing support you have provided (and continue to provide!).
